College Scholarships
Education is the principal focus of Ke Poze. We believe that education is the most important factor in enabling Haitians to improve the lives of their people. We concentrate on students who are completing high school and have good prospects for college, but do not have the means to continue their studies. Students apply for the scholarships through the Diocese of Fort Liberte’. They are interviewed and their academic record is reviewed. Their background and their personal circumstances are discussed. The most promising candidates are selected. The program is coordinated by a priest from the diocese who follows their progress. They reapply and show progress to continue each year The courses of study include nursing, engineering, medical technology, accounting, computer science, and administration. They attend six different universities. From the first group of twelve in 2020, six were able to continue in the 2020-2021 year. Some had to drop out and work to help their families, others were impacted by COVID, and others could not afford other expenses like food, transportation, and lodging. So for the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 years, we have added some living expenses. The original six students were joined by six more in the following year. This group of twelve has since expanded to the current 28 students, who introduce themselves on the website (see videos below). We will continue with this number as expenses allow, and hopefully expand further as generous people respond. The cost of sponsoring a student for the entire academic year is an amazingly low amount of $1,400.
